Qantas jet returns to Calif. with engine trouble
SAN FRANCISCO — A Qantas jet bound for Sydney, Australia, has returned to San Francisco after suffering engine problems.
San Francisco airport duty manager Carol Spear says Flight 74 landed safely early Tuesday. No one was injured.
The flight left San Francisco at 11:05 p.m. It returned at 12:45 a.m. with an engine out.
Spear says 212 passengers were on board. She says Qantas put the passengers up in local hotels for the night and would make arrangements for them to leave for Sydney later Tuesday.
She didn’t know if passengers were able to walk off the plane or had to use chutes.
