CALIFORNIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Ever since the landmark verdict of US District Judge Vaughn Walker turned down the controversial proposition 8 in California the LGBT community in the state have become jubilant. They are hopeful that the two year long ban that had forfeited them of their right to get married to their partners so far will cease to exist soon. It seems that day is not too far if the opponents appeal in the higher court. The judge recently refused to extend the stay on same sex marriage and after August v18 the lesbian and gay couples can marry as it seems. The verdict has come as a moral boost for the gay community in the state as well as the LGBT activists.
When the judge had overturned Proposition 8 on August 4, the LGBT community members were elated but the temporary stay on tying the knot with their partners left some of them a tad sad. They are a bit disheartened to know that it would take some more time before they can exchange marital vows. The proponent of Prop 8 as one can feel are seeing red with the refusal of the judge to extend the stay on same sex marriage.
California would become the sixth US state to support gay and lesbian wedding if the judge has his way. He termed Prop 8 against the constitution earlier in his landmark verdict. The state has witnessed a long battle between the supporters and opponents of Prop 8. The celebrities have also supported the verdict of the judge and if the apex court does not rule against the verdict the gay couples would be seen running to the church soon!
