Swiss police say 2 German climbers die on Eiger
GENEVA — Swiss police say the bodies of two German climbers have been found at the foot of the Eiger mountain’s notorious north face.
Police in the canton of Bern say the 36- and 43-year-old men were found by rescuers Sunday.
In a statement Monday, police said it appeared the climbers had fallen to their deaths.
The 3,970-meter (13,025-foot) Eiger about 40 miles (65 kilometers) southeast of the capital Bern has long been a favorite destination for climbing enthusiasts. Its north face is considered a particularly challenging ascent.
