NEW DELHI (GaeaTimes.com)- It is the first Sunday of the month of August and with the nation celebrating Friendship Day today, everyone is on the search of new methods to greet their closest buddies. With a wide range to choose from starting with greeting cards to text messages or scraps sent through social networking sites, and of course gifts to make your friends happy, the day is surely going to be celebrated in a grand way today. The fact that makes the celebrations all the more special is that it is a Sunday and so the entire day can be dedicated to celebrations and parties!

While even as early as the previous year Friendship Day was celebrated only through the exchange of cards, hand made or purchased from gift shops, this year the postal services can take a break from work as the youth who are the largest part of the society participating in such celebrations are more likely to be hooked to their computer screens than spend time writing on cards. With the advent of social networking and micro blogging sites like Orkut and Facebook, young people have found a better and quicker mode of conveying their messages and wishes.

Apart from Orkut, which is the most popular social networking site in the country, with Facebook and Twitter following shortly behind, several websites like 160by2.com and Way2sms.com are providing free texting services to its customers, mostly the young brigade in India, as part of their special services on Friendship Day. However with children and college goers so stuck to their computer sets today it seems unlikely that they will venture out of doors to participate in a party.
