Friendship Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday of August and friends old and new are seen exchanging gifts, wrist bands, SMSes and greetings. The festival holds immense value for all those who value their friends.

The Friendship Day celebrations began as early as 1935 in the United States but gradually became a world wide phenomenon as people began to associate with it emotionally. Today the day also has a lot of commercial importance as several companies are seen lining up with a range of products that mark the occasion. The day has also received tremendous media highlighting over the years and focused on the emotional part of friendships. Exchange of wrist bands, which symbolize a life long friendship, is a common phenomenon on the day. Considering that it is a Sunday, people all over the country are expected to have parties and get-together at home with their friends and family as well.

The spirit of Friendship Day also seems to have trickled into the relationship between the two biggest stars in Bollywood. Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan who are considered the biggest rival were seen to be bonding recently as the latter attended the premiere of Peepli Live which is produced by Aamir Khan, his so called competitor. Shah Rukh Khan was also seen mending relations with Shiv Sena man Uddhav Thackeray as he wished him on his birthday.
