LONDON - Nearly a fifth of sexually active girls in Britain get pregnant at least once before they turn 18, a survey has revealed.
A poll conducted among thousands of 18-year-olds found that 18 percent become pregnant twice and three percent on three occasions, The Sun reported Friday.
Teenagers with lower grades and those who are from poor backgrounds are more likely to get pregnant by 18, showed the study conducted by the Department for Education.
Girls whose parents didn’t attend school after 16 were also more likely to conceive by 18.
“Clearly there is still much more to be done so young people make safe and healthy choices. We will set out our next steps in due course,” a Department for Education spokesperson was quoted as saying.
