RANCHI - The eyes of a two-and-half-year-old girl were donated to an eye bank after her death, and a doctor here said she was the youngest eye donor in Jharkhand.

Zia fell ill Saturday after suffering from high fever. She died Monday in Ranchi during treatment.

It was from the cremation ground that her father Satya Gurusaran called the Kashyap Eye Memorial Hospital offering to donate the girl’s eyes.

“We have since donated the eyes (to someone),” Bharti Kashyap, medical director of the Kashyap Memorial Eye Bank Trust, told IANS. “This is one of the rarest cases I have come across in my career of over 20 years.”

Zia was the only child of Gurusaran, 26, and Khushboo, 22, of Balumath of Latehar district.
