COLUMBIA (GaeaTimes.com)- It was way back in the year of 1949, when President Harry S. Truman had signed an act of Congress which established June 14 to be observed as the Flag Day. Since then America has always been up and ahead to observe the Flag Day with honor and adulation.
Keeping up the fervor, the Elks Lodge members in Columbia along with the Boy Scout Troop celebrated the Flag Day on Sunday with six different American flags ranging from the era of King George to Barack Obama. The Eight Boy Scouts troop carried American flags in their hands as they entered the room that was decorated with different sizes of American Flags. Each member of the Boy Scout Troop carried Pine Tree flags, Elk Flags and the Snake flags. 13 year old John Hiley leading the Boy Scout troop was carrying the current American flag which has 50 stars. He said that these American flags are a symbol of everything that the nation is proud and holds so dear today.
As the Flag Day celebrations proceeded further in the day, the scout boys took an oath standing under the national flag of America. After the oath, they also took part in the Flag Day retirement ceremony. As a matter of fact this happens to be the very first Flag Day ceremony observed at the Elks Lodge after they shifted to the new building. Russell Williams, who happens to be the chairman of the Flag Day Committee told the media that the American Flags have always served the country without any failure and that they need to be disposed with honor and dignity.
