Conn. man trapped with arm in furnace for days

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Authorities say a Connecticut man was trapped in his basement for at least three days with an arm stuck in his furnace before he was rescued.

Friends of 31-year-old Jonathan Metz had called police after he missed work, did not answer calls at his West Hartford home and failed to show up at a softball game.

Police found him Wednesday night with his left arm trapped in the furnace. Firefighters ripped it apart with heavy tools to get him out.

Police say Metz had been working on the furnace over the weekend, but he was mumbling during the rescue so firefighters could not determine exactly how long he’d been trapped.

Metz has been taken to a hospital. His condition was not available Thursday morning.
