East Coast casinos target Asian-American market

DOVER, Del. — Casinos in Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia that used to offer only slot machines are adding table games and menu options with an Asian-American flavor.

Industry officials hope games like Pai Gow (PEYE’ gow) and noodle bars will attract gamblers who generally don’t like playing the slots.

Casinos such as Dover Downs in Dover and Delaware Park in Wilmington are hiring directors of Asian-American player development, expanding dining areas and menus, and considering foreign-language advertising in newspapers and on billboards.

Asian-American gamblers in the region typically have had to travel to Atlantic City, N.J., or to tribal casinos in Connecticut to play their favorite games.
