Obama, Lebanese PM discuss tensions in Middle East

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama and Lebanon’s prime minister have discussed Mideast peace efforts during an Oval Office meeting.

It was Saad Hariri’s (sahd hah-REER’-ee’s) first official visit to Washington as premier.

The White House says the two leaders reviewed progress Monday on efforts to achieve peace between Arabs and Israelis. Indirect peace talks between the two sides got under way recently.

Hariri says he told Obama about “pervasive frustration and skepticism” in the Muslim world regarding a possible agreement. He says he told the president that failure would lead to more extremism and violence in the region.
