British Airways and union to talk ahead of strike
LONDON — British Airways PLC will hold last-minute talks with the union representing the airline’s cabin crew to try to avert a damaging walkout.
The carrier will resume negotiations with Unite on Saturday to try to resolve the long-running dispute over jobs, pay and working conditions.
Unite said members would walk off the job on Monday for a series of back-to-back strikes totaling 15 days, if no agreement with management could be reached.
BA had sought a court injunction to bar the walkout, but the union won the legal battle when the Court of Appeal sided with it Thursday.
The strikes would affect thousands of travelers and bring more financial hardship to BA, which posted a record annual loss for the second consecutive year Friday.
