White House condemns attack by Taliban in Kabul
ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE — The White House is condemning a Taliban attack in Afghanistan that left six troops and 12 Afghan civilians dead.
The suicide car bomber on Tuesday struck a NATO convoy in Kabul, the Afghan capital, along a major thoroughfare. Of the six troops who were killed, five were Americans and one was Canadian.
White House spokesman Bill Burton said the U.S. and Afghan governments remain steadfast in their drive to build a safer Afghanistan, while the Taliban offers only destruction.
Burton expressed sympathy to the loved ones of those lost.
He said the White House is confident that the legacy of U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan will be a stronger America.
He spoke as the president was en route to Ohio for comments on the economy.
