Utah police stop search for boy, 4; evidence found

EDEN, Utah — Police say they are gathering forensic evidence at a crime scene in a Utah canyon in the case of a 4-year-old boy reported missing from a Layton apartment.

Ethan Stacy was last seen Monday night in bed by his mother, who said the preschooler had walked away five times in the past 10 nights.

Police on Tuesday shifted their search away from the apartment complex and to Ogden Canyon.

Investigators wouldn’t say what kind of evidence was being gathered or whether the boy had been found. But a police lieutenant said investigators had solid leads and members of the public no longer needed to volunteer for search efforts.

Late Tuesday afternoon, officers were seen carrying a blue bag off the mountain.

Layton is about 25 miles north of Salt Lake City.
