New probe in killings of Honduran journalists

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — International human rights monitors will investigate the killings of six journalists in Honduras over the past two months.

The head of the Organization of American States says a delegation from the affiliated Inter-American Human Rights Commission will travel to Honduras in May.

Jose Miguel Insulza says the commission will try to find out whether the killings were politically motivated or related to the journalists’ work.

Insulza told reporters in El Salvador on Monday that Honduran President Porfirio Lobo has agreed to the visit.

Honduran prosecutors are investigating the killings, but have suggested they are part of the wave of common crime. No arrests have been made in any of the slayings.
