CHANDIGARH - The tourism department of this union territory has made elaborate arrangements to welcome the harvest festival of Baisakhi.

Though Baisakhi is on April 13, the celebrations will start from Sunday. Two musical evenings, featuring Bollywood artists and renowned Punjabi singers, have been organised at the Sector 17 Plaza, the commercial hub of the city.

The first day, christened as ‘Jatta Aayi Baisakhi’, will be a colourful extravaganza with a beautiful blend of earthy traditional folk songs of Punjab and modern age music and dance performances. Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi will perform live before the public, the official spokesperson of Chandigarh said.

He added: The second day (Monday) titled as ‘Baisakhi Da Jashan’ will see Bollywood dancer Megna Naidu performing before the audience. Besides there will be a vibrant choreographed bhangra and gidda and a unique belly dance by a Russian dancer.

The administration is expecting tourists from all across the region to witness the Baisakhi festival.
