Outlandish hats go on display at NYC Easter parade
NEW YORK — The people — and their hats — are on parade in New York City.
The Easter parade on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue has attracted numerous folks out for a stroll wearing outlandish and fanciful hats. There are even more people watching and taking photos.
The Easter parade is a tradition that dates back more than 100 years. It originally was a chance for prosperous New Yorkers to strut their finery after attending services at one of the churches on Fifth Avenue. It was immortalized in the 1948 movie “Easter Parade,” starring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire.
Manhattan resident Rosemary Ponzo paraded Sunday decked out as Garland, wearing a black hat with hot pink ostrich feathers.
