Marriages last longer than co-habiting relations

LONDON - Marriages last longer than co-habiting relationships, says a study in Britain.

The Daily Express cited the study by the Office of National Statistics as saying that four in five adults married in 1991 were living with the same partner in 2001 as compared to only around three in five adults who lived with a partner without getting married.

The media report said that marital partnerships were more stable even when other factors were taken into account.

Of those who were cohabiting in 1991, nearly two in five had separated by 2001, a further two in five had married their partner and the remainder were still cohabiting.
