Ohio cop struck in dashcam video says he’s lucky

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, Ohio — A police officer from suburban Cleveland who was flipped over a guardrail by an out-of-control vehicle says he’s fortunate to be alive.

The accident that injured Brooklyn Heights Lt. John Lambert last Saturday was captured in a dramatic bit of dashcam video recorded by his cruiser. He was helping a stranded motorist on an icy highway ramp when another car slid toward them. Lambert pushed the first driver out of the way before he was sent flying.

In a statement released Thursday, the 42-year-old Lambert says seeing the video has made him realize just how lucky he is. He also says he’s been overwhelmed by messages of support.

Lambert’s department says the officer faces a long recovery from a broken pelvis and other injuries. No charges have been filed in the crash.
