Kauai County acquires 75-acre parcel of land
ELEELE, Hawaii — Kauai County has acquired a 75-acre parcel of land in Eleele from Alexander & Baldwin Inc. for affordable housing.
The county says the transaction included a donation by A&B because it sold the land at a sales price below fair market value.
The $2.5 million purchase was approved by the County Council in December. The land purchase was initiated by the late Mayor Bryan Baptiste.
The parcel is located along Kaumualii Highway, adjacent to Kauai Habitat for Humanity’s Eleele I Luna affordable housing project.
The county’s Housing Agency has hired land planning consultant R. M. Towill to draw up a master plan the site.
County officials say the master plan will help determine potential housing density, and site and offsite infrastructure needs.
