Brazilian president says Castro looks ‘recovered’
HAVANA — Brazil’s president describes Fidel Castro as “exceptionally well” and says the former Cuban leader appears recovered from a health crisis that has kept him out of the public eye for more than 3½ years.
Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva spent more than an hour Wednesday discussing various topics with the 83-year-old Castro, who ceded power to his younger brother Raul after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in July 2006.
Castro has not been seen in public since, though he has appeared healthier in photos released by the government in recent months.
Silva last visited Castro in 2008. Brazil’s private Agencia Estado news agency says that this trip Silva believes Castro looks “much different.” The agency cites unidentified Silva aides.
