Kenya president, PM hold 1st meeting since dispute
NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya’s government spokesman says the president and prime minister have met face-to-face for the first time since their public dispute over the suspension of ministers linked to corruption scandals.
Spokesman Alfred Mutua says President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga met briefly Tuesday during the opening of Parliament. He gave no details. The split between the two threatened to bring down the fragile coalition government and return the country to the bloodshed that followed the disputed 2007 election.
Odinga had suspended the ministers of education and agriculture about 10 days ago following scandals in which millions of dollars were misappropriated. Kibaki overruled the suspensions and said he had not been consulted.
