Harper’s Magazine editor steps down

NEW YORK — The publisher of Harper’s Magazine says Roger Hodge is stepping down as editor.

In a statement, John R. MacArthur said Tuesday that the magazine’s managing editor, Ellen Rosenbush, will become acting editor when Hodge leaves Feb. 1. He said Hodge is leaving to “pursue other endeavors” but did not elaborate.

Hodge, who started at the magazine as an intern in 1996, took over for longtime editor Lewis Lapham when he retired in 2006.

Harper’s was founded in 1850 and is the oldest continually published general interest magazine in the country. It has an average circulation of about 200,000, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
