Officials: Suspected US drone kills 4 in Pakistan
PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. drone fired two missiles at a compound in Pakistan’s volatile tribal area near the Afghan border, killing four people.
The officials say Tuesday’s strike occurred in an area of North Waziristan dominated by the Haqqani network, an Afghan Taliban faction with close ties to al-Qaida.
The officials said the compound was located in the Deegan area of North Waziristan, some 18 miles (30 kilometers) west of Miranshah and 12 miles (20 kilometers) south of the Afghan border.
The identities of those killed in the attack were still unknown.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
