MUSCAT - The Indian mission starts online registration of Non-Resident Indians in Oman today.

India’s Ambassador to Oman Anil Wadhwa said, “We are in the process of creating a database of all Indians working in Oman so that they could be traced and contacted as fast as possible in case of emergencies,”

He told that it is important for every Indian passport holder to register on the diplomatic mission’s website.

“We have prepared a simple one-page form to be filled on line for the registration,” he added.

He pointed that in November there were around 550, 000 Indians on the Manpower Ministry’s data, now it has increased to 573,000.

He said: “It is an enormous task to register 573, 000 Indian workers but we hope to complete the whole project by 2014″, the Gulf News reported.

According to him the mission will also help in the registration of the blue-collar workers.

He said that the NRIs Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and Union Territory of Pondicherry, should submit their registration forms so that could exercise their franchise when elections to these states are held. (ANI)
