DHARAMSALA - Appearing for the first time before his followers since raids were conducted at the Gyuto monastery, Karmapa Lama said he has full faith in the Indian law and people will soon know the truth about the recovery of huge foreign currencies from his transit home.

“There is no need to worry. India, unlike China, is a free country and I have full faith in it. Truth will be uncovered soon,” he added.

Meanwhile, over 2,000 Tibetans took out a march here to show their support for Karmapa.

The Tibetans, including monks and nuns, marched 9 km to reach here from McLeodganj carrying Buddhist flags and portraits of Karmapa. They also chanted slogans and carried posters that read ‘Karmapa is innocent. Let truth prevail’.

Meanwhile, the devotees in Nainital organised a week long prayer ceremony for his welfare.

“He has been accused to be a Chinese spy, this is shocking for us. In our tradition, if any Guru faces a bad time or something ill is said against him then that affects his life. Therefore, we decided to organise a week long praying ceremony for his long life,” said Nawang.

The Karmapa Lama is being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate officials, and continues to remain under the scanner for his alleged Chinese links.

Police have so far arrested several people in connection with the seizure and raided several places in Himachal Pradesh and New Delhi.

During questioning, Karmapa had said he was not aware of the seizure of foreign currency worth over Rs 7.5 crore from the monastery and maintained that Shakti Lama and Gompu Tshering handled the affairs of the trust.

Karmapa’s office had also maintained that Karmapa had nothing to do with currency and money was received by way of offerings and donations from disciples coming from different parts of the world, including China and Tibet.

Rabjaychojan also known as Shakti Lama, a close aide of the Karmapa Lama, has been sent to police custody till February 5, in connection with the case.

Karmapa Lama lives in exile along with the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, the centre of the self-proclaimed Tibetan government-in-exile. (ANI)
