Best-looking flight crew survey dubbed ‘very offensive’

WELLINGTON - A survey that asked respondents to choose the airline with the best-looking flight crew has been dubbed as being “very offensive”.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the survey, conducted at the Business Travel and Meetings Show in London, asked 1000 respondents to name the best-looking aircrew.
More than half of those polled chose Virgin Atlantic as having the most attractive crew. One-in-five chose Singapore Airlines and 12 percent chose Etihad, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates.
But the Association of Professional Flight Attendants slammed the survey, as since the late 60s, airline unions have lobbied airlines to disregard gender, age or appearance when employing airhostesses and stewards.
The industry body that represents 18,000 American flight crews found the survey “very offensive”.
Its spokesman Jeff Pharr said the tenor of the survey undermined the essential importance of aircrew jobs. Particularly since 9/11, he said, crew are under more pressure.
“We are the first responders on the plane, and I don’t see that looks have anything to do with that,” Suff.co.nz quoted him as saying. (ANI)
