DOHA - Vayalar Ravi, the Indian Cabinet Minister of Overseas Affairs, has said that the online enrollment process of ‘Indian expatriates’ in the voters’ register is being finalised, but added that casting votes abroad is not permitted.

“When the process is completed, expatriate Indians can enroll their names in the voter’s list through the website of the Indian government. But casting ballots abroad is still not possible,” The Gulf News quoted Ravi as saying at the Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC) conference in Doha.

Addressing the delegates and supporters of Indian National Congress (INC) from over 25 countries, he also said that the details of the registration process would soon be announced by the government.

Ravi, who is also the Indian minister for civil aviation, said that the Air India office that was relocated from Mumbai to Kochi would be inaugurated at the end of February.

“Air India can recover from its present financial crisis through the provision of additional services to the GCC countries,” he said.

Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, the Indian Ambassador to Qatar, said that the fact that many Indian immigrants are holding top jobs in Qatar is a testimony about the capability and productivity of Indian professionals, the report said. (ANI)
