NEW DELHI - Libya’s Ambassador to India, Ali al-Essawi, resigned from his post on Monday in protest against his government’s crackdown on demonstrators.

While resigning, he called for the ouster of long-time Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and accused his government of deploying foreign mercenaries against the protesters.

The Libyan embassy in New Delhi declined to comment when approached this afternoon.

Intense protests are taking place in Libya against Gaddafi, who has ruled uninterruptedly for the past 41 years.

Over 200 people had been killed over the past two days.(ANI)
