SURAT - Textile industry honchos in Gujarat have put forward its demands and expectations ahead of the announcement of the federal budget.

One of their demands is to reduce tax levied on fibre yarn.

“We are keeping demands in next Budget that as there is 4 percent duty on cotton yarn, in a similar way it should be for fibre yarn. Cotton is being used by rich people and the fibre yarn, which has 10 percent duty on it, is been using by people from poor sections.” said Ashok Dhirawala, President of Federation of Gujarat Weavers Association.

According to wholesalers, if the government provides a rebate on duties levied on cloth, sales would increase.

Surat is a textile hub, facing severe labour crisis for several months. (ANI)
