SHANGHAI - - Shanghai plans to increase its revenues by 70 percent by 2015 by targeting its tourism industry.

The local authorities said that they are looking to earn 520 billion Yuan ($78.9 billion) in tourism revenues as compared to last year’s 305.3 billion Yuan, a target that matches the Chinese Financial and Business Centre’s goal of turning itself into a world famous tourist destination.

Yu Zhengsheng, head of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China said that Shanghai aims to develop its tourism industry into a strategic pillar, which is expected to create 300,000 jobs and contribute to the city’s gross development project.

The city plans to attract 240 million domestic and 10 million foreign tourists by 2015.

Last year Shanghai welcomed 215 million domestic tourists and 7.3 million foreign tourists, The China Daily reports. (ANI)
