ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has reportedly stepped in personally to look into Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s detention at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport over undeclared foreign currency.
According to the Dawn, Malik has spoken to Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik, and asked him to monitor the matter closely.
The Interior Minister has also asked for details about the detention on Sunday.
It is reported that Khan was detained for allegedly attempting to leave the country with over 124,000 dollars.
Indian laws allow up to 5,000 dollars in cash, or 10,000 dollars in traveller’s cheques to be taken abroad.
Khan, along with his troupe of about 20 people, was scheduled to fly to Lahore on a Emirates flight after a series of performances in India. (ANI)
