UK to withdraw counter-terrorism project funds to end multiculturalism

LONDON - The British government plans to withdraw over 1.2 million pounds in funds allotted for its controversial counter-terrorism projects.

According to The Telegraph, the first target of the new policy would be the “Street Project”, based at Brixton Mosque in South London, which has received over 500,000 pounds in three years from the government.

The British Home Office has reportedly told the project it will have its money withdrawn this year in the first step towards switching funding away from strains of Islam with which the government disagrees, the paper said.

The other organisations that will face the heat of the new policy includes Siraat, a 500,000 pounds prison-based mentoring project across southern England, and Impact that has received 280,000 pounds and is based in Hounslow, West London.

The move has come after Prime Minister David Cameron had declared a week ago that the doctrine of multiculturalism had “failed” and also emphasised on the need of a stronger national identity to stop young Muslims being radicalised and tempted into terrorism. (ANI)
