Beggars, sex workers and eunuchs get place in Census 2011 as other category

AGARTALA - In the ongoing first phase of census count in Agartala, beggars, sex workers and eunuchs have got a place in the Indian Census 2011 as the other category.
Census Operations Director Dilip Acharjee told reporters on Saturday that some new features have been introduced in census 2011.
“This time it is the 2011 Census. There are some two-three features of the new things to be introduced. One is the date of birth of people, and separate code for the eunuchs. This is the first time we are now going to introduce,” said Acharjee.
“Another thing that prostitutes, who were treated as beggars during the previous census, this time there will be another code that is ‘Others’ will be introduced,” he added.
Census operations, the biggest administrative exercise, are to be undertaken between February 9 and 28 throughout the country.
Acharjee further said that new features have been introduced for the first time in census in the history of India and category shall be marked as ‘Other’ in the form for Census 2011.
He also noted that it is the biggest administrative exercise of the country.
“We have included all the people right from the central government to state government. State government machineries are involved in the entire process. That’s why it is the biggest administrative exercise in the country,” he added.
According to the officials, a total of 29 questionnaires will be put to each person and all the information collected will remain confidential.
Army and Para-military force will be involved country wide for smooth conduct of census.
