Seminar cum discussion on northeast held in Delhi

NEW DELHI - A seminar on the northeast was recently held here that focused on using literature, academic work and creative writing as a vehicle for spreading peace in the region.
The festival attracted writers, journalist and social activists from different parts of country who have extensively covered the northeast in the past.
The event has been organized basically to talk about the writers of northeast who are now beginning to come up and make an impact in the mainland. axmi Murthy, a Journalist said books make others aware of culture of northeast
“There are folk stories from Arunachal, Manipur, Assam and other states that are translated in to English. This is where you can start making people aware of the rich culture of Northeast,” he added.
A northeast themed cultural fest is not complete without rock music. Soulamte, a young band from Shillong performed on the last day of the event.
Akhup, Musician, Imphal Talkies said: “Before we talk about peace. First we should inform the people what is happening in the North East or whatever takes place in the particular area. I don’t know through music I can bring peace but through my songs I can tell people what is happening that’s why I compose a song that will focus on the current situation.
How writing and culture can contribute to creating an atmosphere that is conducive to peace in the region were discussed during the festival.
A photo exhibition “Seven Sisters and the City” by contemporary artist Uzma Mohsin featuring the life of a woman from the Northeast attracted many visitors. (ANI)
