NAVSARI - As many as 200 children fell sick after they consumed food served during a meal organised by non-resident Indian at a primary school in Gujarat’s Navsari district.

About 450 children and 50 staff of the Balmandir School attended a lunch organised by a non-resident Indian, and later complained of stomachache and nausea.

M. R. Deliwala, the Health officer of Navsari district, said the victims were rushed to a government hospital nearby.

“An NRI party had organised a lunch for school children. The food consisted of pineapple, puri (fried Indian bread), pulses and boiled vegetables. After four hours, 10-15 children complained of stomach ache and nausea,” he said.

Deliwala also added that some children had not recovered and are under observation.

“Our employees and medical officers conducted a survey there and brought all those children and staff complaining of stomach pain. They were brought here to the Primary Health Centre and out of 180 patients, 22 are still complaining of stomach ache. Most of them are under the age of 14 years,” he said.

The non-resident Indians who organised the lunch were not available for comment and the police is investigating the matter. (ANI)
