Arms seized in Manipur District

THOUBAL - Manipur Police have seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the Wabagai Makha Leikai area in the state’s Thoubal District.

Acting on the basis of a tip-off, commandos collected arms for attacking security forces.

“Before Republic Day and after Republic Day, we have been getting some information about the large quantities of arms and ammunition being brought to attack security forces in Thoubal District. So, last night, based on specific information, our commandos launched an intensive search around Wabagai Makha Leikai,” said Clay Khongsai, Superintendent of Police, Thoubal District.

The recovered arms and ammunition comprised of one UGBL (Under Barrel Grenade Launcher) A-4 rifle, one INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) Rifle, two M-16 Rifles, three AK-56 rifles, one .303 Rifle (modified), two M-23 bipod LMG (Light Machine Gun) Rifles, 12 AK magazines, one .303 rifle magazine, five live rounds of .303 rifle ammunitions, 148 live rounds of AK ammunitions, 156 rounds of M-16 ammunitions.

Various militant outfits are active in Manipur such as the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), the Military Council faction of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-MC), the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA). (ANI)
