LONDON - A locket that contains Admiral Lord Nelson’s hair has sold for more than 50,000 pounds.
The locket, dating to the time Nelson had a scandalous affair with Lady Emma Hamilton, has a ‘N’ on the front for Nelson and is inscribed with the date August 1, 1798 - the first day of the Battle of the Nile.
The following month, Nelson and Emma - who were both married - began their affair.
London jeweller Sandra Cronan bought the locket at the Woolley and Wallis saleroom in Salisbury, Wiltshire, for nearly ten times its original estimate.
“This is potentially a very important piece,” the Daily Mail quoted auction house spokesperson Jonathan Edwards as saying. (ANI)
