RAIPUR - Dozens of media persons staged a sit-in Sunday here to protest the killings of two mainline journalists in the state in recent weeks.

Nearly 100 journalists gathered outside Raipur Press Club complex in the heart of the city for the protest. They expressed concern over rising attacks on journalists in the state and police failures to track down the attackers.

On Jan 23, Umesh Rajput, employed with Hindi daily Nai Duniya, was killed in Chhura area of Raipur district, some 100 km from here. Police said that masked men arrived on a bike and opened fire on the 32-year-old journalist. The killers were believed to be upset over a news the scribe reported.

Another journalist, Sushil Pathak, 35, was gunned down by unidentified people in Bilaspur town Dec 20, 2010, while returning home from a late night shift at Dainik Bhaskar office, where he was employed.

Police are yet to make any arrest in both the killings.
