WASHINGTON - Celebrity journalist Mike Evans has backtracked from recent statements made regarding US President Barack Obama’s original birth certificate.

On January 20, Evans told Minnesota’s KQRS radio station that Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie had told him that he was unable to find Obama’s birth certificate.

“Yesterday, talking to Neil’s office, Neil says that he searched everywhere using his powers as governor ….. there is no Barack Obama birth certificate in Hawaii. Absolutely no proof at all that he was born in Hawaii,” he had said then.

That story has now changed, as Evans told FoxNews.com on Wednesday that he ‘never talked to him (Abercrombie)’.

“Only this I can you tell you is 100 percent fact: that Neil never told me there was no birth certificate,” he said.

Evans said he accidentally told KQRS that he had spoken directly with Abercrombie about Obama’s birth certificate.

“I was on 34 radio stations that morning. That was the only station where I said, instead of saying ‘the hospital said there’s no birth certificate’. I misspoke and said Neil said that,” said Evans.

“I misspoke and I apologize for that. I apologize to Neil,” he added. (ANI)
