NEW YORK - : Nearly 700 city cops will police New York’s Freedom Tower and its surrounding area after it is rebuilt.

Disclosing this, New York Police Department Commissioner Raymond Kelly said 673 officers will eventually work out of the new command.

According to the New York Daily News, police officers will be assigned to the new command incrementally.

The new police command will further the police department’s efforts to put lower Manhattan on lockdown mode by complementing the network of security cameras and license plate readers known as the “Ring of Steel.”

Kelly said Tuesday that “a solid defense against terrorism” will provide a safe working environment for businesses, and help spur Ground Zero’s rebirth. (ANI)
