SRINAGAR - Thousands of youngsters turned up at a police recruitment rally here on Wednesday to fill 300 police constable vacancies.

The on-the-spot recruitment drive was specially launched for the old Srinagar and was organised in Khanyar area which often witnesses’ violent protests and stone-pelting incidents between youth and policemen.

Kuldeep Khuda, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the purpose of the rally was to address the under representation of youth of Srinagar and to develop bridges to address the problems of the youth.

“This rally is being done with a specific purpose to address the under representation of Srinagar boys in our force. And also to develop bridges with the people to understand the problems of the youth and to develop a rapport with the youth, so that the youth of this place can understand the problems of this area better and they can police the area better,” said Khuda.

He further said that such a huge turnout shows that the youth of Srinagar is on the police side and added that he want Srinagar youth to be in the force in large numbers.

The youth welcomed the rally and said that this step will help improve the condition in the valley.

“There was a lot of unemployment. When young and educated boys do not get jobs or work, they have to work as labourers, which bring bad thought to their mind. But by getting recruitment in the police, the youth will be happy and it will improve the condition of the valley,” said Shabir Ahmad. (ANI)
