LAHORE - The Pakistan Punjab Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution condemning the assassination of Governor Salmaan Taseer.
Taseer was assassinated by his bodyguard, Malik Mumtaz Qadri, when he was coming out from a restaurant in Islamabad on January 4.
It is the most high-profile political killing in Pakistan since former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination in December 2007.
Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad had moved the resolution on Monday, which was seconded by Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan and Opposition Leader Ch Zaheer.
The resolution, paying tribute to the assassinated governor for his political and social services for the people, declared that Taseer was an active politician and played a vital role in politics.
“His political and social services will not be forgotten,” the Daily Times quoted the resolution, as saying.
Through the resolution, the provincial assembly also condoled with the bereaved family, praying to God to give them strength to bear such a great loss.
Taseer was elected as member of the Pakistan Punjab Assembly in 1988. (ANI)
