ALLAHABAD - The Samajwadi Party workers, who staged a demonstration here on Monday, against the visit of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi attempted to breach the security by blocking his cavalcade.
The incident took place when Gandhi was heading to Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) campus, where he was scheduled to interact with a group of more than 500 students drawn from MNNIT as well as other institutions of higher learning in the city.
The activists of the youth-wing of the Samajwadi Party also staged a demonstration near the MNNIT campus protesting the failure of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre to restore students’ union in Allahabad University, which was granted central status in 2005.
Shouting slogans, the protestors asked Rahul Gandhi to ‘go back’.
The police has, however, denied reports that there was a security breach.
Gandhi is presently on a two-day visit of Uttar Pradesh during which he is expected to visit five districts and interact with college students.
During his stay, he will also visit Lucknow, Jhansi, Agra and Varanasi districts.
Gandhi will interact with students from different colleges, and address about 600 students at the Deendayal Upadhyaya auditorium in Jhansi.
He will also have an interactive session with students in Lucknow tomorrow. (ANI)
