ISLAMABAD - Former Pakistan President and chief of the All-Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Pervez Musharraf has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the assassination of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer.
In a statement, “he prayed that god rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with equanimity,” the Daily Times reports.
Taseer was gunned down by one of his own bodyguards in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The 66-year-old Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader was a critic of blasphemy laws, which he believed fueled radicalism.
He also spoke out against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, and claimed that right-wing politicians worked hand-in-hand with militants. (ANI)
