ISLAMABAD - The PML-Q will not blackmail the PPP-led Pakistan coalition government since it does not believe in following such policies, PML-Q President Shujaat Hussain has said.

Talking to media persons after meeting with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Shujaat said he had promised conditional support to him, provided that the government would ensure good governance in the country.

“The support for the PM is not a matter of an individual… we want to see democracy flourish in the country and will never support any such action that might harm the democratic system,” the Daily Times quoted Shujaat, as saying.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the PML-N would not allow democracy to be derailed.

Shahbaz met with Gilani at the latter’s residence, where the two exchanged views on various matters, with special focus on the prevailing political situation in the country.

Shahbaz said democracy became a reality only after a long struggle against dictatorial regimes, and that the PML-N would not let it get derailed.

He said any decision on the current political situation would be taken in the party meeting, which is due to be held on Tuesday (today).

Also, the Pakistan People’s Party has found a steady supporter in Awami National Party (ANP).

ANP chief Asfandyar Wali said on Monday that his party would support the PPP-led government in every troubled time and would not leave it alone.

Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House, he said the ANP and PPP alliance would continue, and that the federal government had the capability to face any situation.

It is not an easy task to change the PM, as he was elected by a constitutional process from parliament, Asfandyar added. (ANI)
