LONDON - A 28-year-old former beauty queen accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and torturing of her ex-beau has been sentenced to two years in prison and six years’ probation.
Kumari Fulbright, who participated in Ms Arizona in 2005, pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to commit kidnapping and aggravated assault as part of a plea agreement that stipulated the prison sentence, reports the Daily Mail.
Fulbright, a former University of Arizona law school student, was arrested with three men in December 2007 after the ex-boyfriend told police he’d been tied up and kept captive for eight to 10 hours, robbed and tortured.
According to prosecutors, Fulbright was dating Joshua Conway when she asked him to sell jewellery she was given by her former boyfriend Robert Ergonis.
When Ergonis came back into Fulbright’s life, she lied and told Ergonis that Conway had stolen and sold the jewellery.
Fulbright lured Conway to her flat and Ergonis, along with friends, jumped him, the prosecutors said.
Conway was beaten, cut with a knife and held at gunpoint for hours until he was able to escape.
Ergonis was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, armed robbery and aggravated robbery.
In Pima County Superior Court, Judge Michael Miller sentenced Fulbright. He ordered her to pay 15,000 pounds in restitution.
Fulbright competed in the Miss Arizona contest and was named Miss Pima County in 2005 and Miss Desert Sun in 2006. (ANI)
