LONDON - A survey has shown that going to the dentist is still a terrifying experience for millions of Britons.

One in five women and one in 10 men admit they are “extremely anxious” about a check-up despite huge advances in technology and pain relief.

The survey of 11,000 adults for the Office for National Statistics also found younger people were more fearful than their elders.

Dr Heather Buchanan, a health psychologist at Nottingham University, said many people became worried if they had seen their parents fearing the dentist, reports the Daily Express.

Although the chief concern is pain, she said: “There is also the double whammy that a trip to the dentist can also be expensive that causes some people to worry.” (ANI)
