PESHAWAR - Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, has said that terrorists have had their roots in Afghanistan for the past thirty years, and now it is the responsibility of the United States and NATO to crush them.
Iftikhar made these comments while briefing the media after a cabinet meeting chaired by KP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, the Daily Times reported.
He said the Pakistani security forces had been chasing terrorists across the country, including the Tribal Areas, to finish them off.
The minister informed the media that warring factions in Afghanistan were being contacted to restore peace in that country.
“Peace will return and soon there will be no terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan,” added Iftikhar, who is also the spokesman for the Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa government.
The minister said the cabinet had reviewed the law and order situation in the province, and condemned the terror attacks in Mohmand Agency.
“The cabinet has condemned the suicide attacks in Mohmand Agency and the attempt to assassinate Balochistan Chief Minister Raisani,” he said.
Regarding the security arrangements for Muharram, Iftikhar said 12 districts in the province had been declared sensitive, adding that special measures were being taken to protect mosques and imambargahs. He said hotels were also being checked, and more check posts would be set up in the sensitive areas. (ANI)
