1 in 10 Brit pensioners will spend Christmas alone

LONDON - A new survey has revealed that more than one in 10 pensioners in UK will spend Christmas Day alone.

Most people believe the festival is “overrated” with one in five saying they dread it, reports the Daily Express.

A study of 1,005 adults revealed that 68 per cent would celebrate the day with family.

But six per cent said they would spend it on their own, with this figure rising to 11 per cent of over-65s.

Theos, the public theology think-tank, conducted the research.

Paul Woolley of Theos said it was a concern that so many older people would be alone.

He also highlighted the “stark differences” between rich and poor, with people in the two lowest socio-economic groups more likely to dread Christmas, more likely to borrow to pay for it, and more likely to spend it alone. (ANI)
